They were amazed and thought the disciples were drunk on wine. Then the apostle Peter got up and preached the Good News of the kingdom and people accepted the message of Christ. That same day they were baptized and added to the family of God.
The book of Acts continues to record the miraculous outpouring of the Holy Spirit that began on the Feast of Pentecost.
This Old Testament feast revealed "a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ " Colossians When the Jews accepted the Torah, they became servants of God. It is interesting that the entire Godhead was involved in the fulfilling of the spring feasts. The Son honored and fulfilled the Feast of Passover by His death. The Father honored and fulfilled the Feast of Firstfruits by raising up Christ from death and the grave. Now we, in response to the fulfilling work of the total Godhead, can truly serve the Lord in all power and truth! Life, real life, walking hand-in-Hand with Him is lived filled with the same Holy Spirit that filled the first followers of The Way in Acts 2, and being empowered and matured through Him.

In Leviticus God told the Jews: You shall also count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day when you brought in the sheaf of the wave offering; there shall be seven complete Sabbaths. A new grain offering was to be offered in the Feast of Weeks: You shall bring in from your dwelling places two loaves of bread for a wave offering, made of two-tenths of an ephah; they shall be of a fine flour, baked with leaven as firstfruits to the Lord.
We read in 1 Corinthians Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread. The Remembrances The feasts all have a historical significance. We read in Exodus All the people perceived the thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance.
Exodus states: So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. The parallels are quite fascinating when we read Acts And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Filling of the Spirit The concept of the filling of the Spirit has always evoked different opinions regarding its meaning. And His commandments are not burdensome" 1 John 1 John [2] By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. Because God's Spirit was now residing in the Church, its members could express genuine love.
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another" John John [34] A new commandment I give to you, That you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. God's gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost made it possible for the Church to fully express God's commandments of love. Firstfruits are the first agricultural products to mature and ripen. Throughout the Bible, God uses the analogy of the harvest—and, particularly on Pentecost, firstfruits—to illustrate aspects of His plan of salvation.
Israel observed this day in the late spring after the barley and wheat harvests. A special offering of the first ripe grain during the Days of Unleavened Bread, called the wave-sheaf offering, marked the beginning of these harvests, which continued during the next 50 days and led up to Pentecost Leviticus Leviticus And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
This spring harvest was the firstfruits of the yearly agricultural cycle. One of the first harvest lessons of the New Testament is that Jesus Christ "is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep" 1 Corinthians 1 Corinthians But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. He presented Himself to God the Father on the Sunday after His resurrection, the same day during the Days of Unleavened Bread on which the first sheaf of grain of the spring harvest was to be waved before God.
Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark and after Jesus had already been resurrected John John The first day of the week comes Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, to the sepulcher, and sees the stone taken away from the sepulcher.
She ran to tell Peter and John that Jesus was no longer in His grave. The two men hurried to see this and verified that Jesus' body was gone John John [2] Then she runs, and comes to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulcher, and we know not where they have laid him.
As she wept, Jesus appeared to her but would not allow her to hold on to Him because He had "not yet ascended" to the Father John John Jesus said to her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brothers, and say to them, I ascend to my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Later that same day Jesus appeared again. This time He allowed certain women to hold on to Him Matthew Matthew And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail.
And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. His own words show that, between the time Mary Magdalene saw Him and the time He allowed the women to hold on to Him, He had ascended to, and been accepted by, the Father.
The wave-sheaf ceremony God gave to ancient Israel thus represents Jesus Christ's acceptance by His Father as "the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep" 1 Corinthians 1 Corinthians But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. Romans Romans For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
In speaking of the Father, James said, "Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures" James James Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. First-Fruits of the Spirit: As the Israelites celebrated Pentecost, they offered to God the first-fruits of the wheat harvest Lev , but at the new Pentecost, God offered to His church the first-fruits of the Spirit Rom ; Eph By offering to God the first-fruits of grain, the believer bore witness that whole field and crop belonged to God, whose continued blessing was requested through the sacrifice itself.
Similarly, Christ places the Spirit within the believer as a pledge that the whole person, body and soul, belongs to him. In both cases, there was divine speech connected with divine fire, but the message could not have been more different.
